How to find out whether Artificial Intelligence names your company
Put to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity the questions your customers would ask to find a company like yours, without ever mentioning your name. Then look at whether you appear in the answer. For the large majority of small and mid-sized companies tested, the answer is no, on all four engines at once.
The method, in three steps
- Phrase the question the way a customer would, not the way you would type a keyword. For example: “Who is the best interior designer in Dubai for a fast turnaround?” rather than “interior designer Dubai”.
- Put the same question to the four main engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. Each answers differently, and a company can be named by one and absent from the other three.
- Write down who gets named: your company, your competitors, or nobody in particular.
That list of names is what matters, not some abstract score.
The most frequent result
Here, as an example, is the kind of result we see most often when a small company tests its visibility for the first time.
Illustrative example. Outside a niche market or an unusually tech-minded owner, this is the most common result.
This result is not an anomaly, and it says nothing bad about how your company runs.
It simply reflects work that, for the vast majority of small companies, has not started yet. Which also means the ground stays wide open for the ones who begin fixing their sites and pages now.
What to do with your result
A quick test like this gives a first indication, but it stays rough: AI answers vary with the exact wording of the question, with the moment, and sometimes even with where the person asking is sitting. For a reliable reading and clear priorities, a more structured diagnosis, putting some fifteen realistic commercial questions to the four engines, gives a far truer and more usable picture.
Frequently asked questions
Is one question enough to get an idea?
No. One question gives a clue, not a reliable picture. AI answers vary with the wording. A serious diagnosis tests several wordings across several engines.
If my company does not appear, is that serious?
It is not a judgement on the quality of your company, it is a signal that no AI visibility work has been done yet. The situation is very widespread, which makes it an opportunity for as long as your competitors have not acted either.
Are the results the same from one engine to another?
- No. Each engine leans on different sources and different methods.
- A company can be named by one or two engines and absent from the others.
