Advertising inside ChatGPT: what it changes for companies in the Gulf
OpenAI has begun opening advertising inside ChatGPT, market by market, starting with France on 24 August 2026.
Adverts appear as clearly labelled sponsored panels underneath some of the chatbot's answers. In this first phase, access runs only through partner agencies, and we are one of them.
No self-service tool is open yet.
What actually changes
Where the format has opened, ChatGPT users on a free account or on the Go plan may see, under some answers, a sponsored panel clearly separated from the content the AI generated. Paid accounts, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education, see no advertising at all.
In this first phase, OpenAI states that adverts are not finely personalised: they are selected on the subject of the conversation in progress plus a little limited context, such as broad location or device type. Deeper personalisation is announced for later, and will require the user's explicit consent.
The essentials
Why a company cannot yet run a campaign on its own
Advertisers who want to run adverts inside ChatGPT must go through a small number of partner agencies, or through OpenAI's own sales team.
A self-service console comparable to Google Ads is planned but is not open yet. Plainly: for now, a company cannot simply open an account and launch a campaign in an hour the way it would in Google Ads.
That in-between period is not an obstacle to shrug off, it is a window to get ready in. Understanding how the format works, settling your strategy and your message, and following the rollout as it reaches new markets means being ready the day access opens, instead of discovering it late. As an official OpenAI ChatGPT Ads partner, we are on the inside of that rollout.
Paid and organic: two linked subjects
Advertising inside ChatGPT does not replace organic visibility work inside AI, commonly called GEO. A sponsored panel may appear now and then under an answer, but the answer itself, the one the AI writes spontaneously, still depends on how your company is understood and named by the system. The two run in parallel and reinforce each other. Neither substitutes for the other.
Frequently asked questions
Will every ChatGPT user see advertising?
- No. Only users on a Free or Go account can see sponsored panels.
- Paid accounts, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education, are exempt.
Can a company launch a campaign on its own yet?
- Not yet. Access runs through partner agencies, or through OpenAI directly.
- A self-service tool is planned, with no confirmed date.
Should we wait for self-service before preparing?
No. Understanding the format, settling your strategy and working your organic AI visibility in parallel are steps you can start now, whatever the official opening date turns out to be.
